Our Mission

The Savory Nest is more than a bakery — it is a place where families return to food they can trust and the simple rhythm of gathering around the table.

We are rooted in: faith, family, and the obedience in the work of our hands. As we expand, we hope to create spaces where people feel welcomed, known, and nourished.

We are building something that lasts. Something honest. Something that continues to serve, long after us.

1 Thessalonians 4:11
"To make it your ambition and definitely endeavor to live quietly and peacefully, to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we charged you"

Our Core Values

For us, sourdough isn’t a trend — it’s our way of honoring tradition, health, and the experience of gathering around the table. And at the foundation of our bakery is Matthew 4:4 — “Man shall not live by bread alone…” We bake bread for the body, but we live by the Word that sustains the soul.

Integrity

We believe in doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. Our commitment to quality and honesty guides everything we do.

Kindness

We treat everyone with respect and compassion, whether it’s our customers, our team, or our community.

Quality

We never compromise on the quality of our ingredients or our products. Every loaf is a labor of love, crafted to perfection.

Karla & Jose Mendoza, Founders

The Story

Born and raised in Guatemala until the age of 13, Karla grew up surrounded by the rich traditions of her mother’s cooking. Food wasn’t just nourishment in her family, it was love, culture, and connection. When her family relocated to California, she carried that passion with her, even though her journey into baking wasn’t one she originally anticipated. What she did anticipate, however, was owning a business. As a child, Karla played store with her cousin and sold banana pops in her neighborhood. That entrepreneurial spirit has always been part of her.

After years of settling into the United States, Karla continued her pursuit of business, working alongside family-run businesses that reignited her desire to build something of her own. Determined to create wholesome food for her family and friends, she ventured into the world of sourdough baking. What began as a personal mission to bring loved ones together over a wholesome meal evolved into a flourishing business that now serves the broader community.

The Savory Nest was born out of Karla’s kitchen and grew from a simple desire to make better bread for her inner circle into a passion for sharing with her community. Her bread, made with carefully selected organic (when possible) ingredients, is a labor of love crafted to nourish both body and soul. Karla sees The Savory Nest as more than a bakery – it’s a journey toward healthier eating and a return to essential, wholesome foods that our bodies were meant to consume.

While her path into baking came as a surprise, her entrepreneurial drive was always part of her story. Now, with The Savory Nest, Karla has combined her passion for family, health, and faith into a thriving business that reflects her core values of quality, kindness, and integrity. She bakes with the same care and attention to detail that she applies to her own family’s meals, and every loaf, roll, and muffin is made with her customers in mind.

When she’s not baking, Karla enjoys tending to her garden and chickens, and cooking in her kitchen. Her kitchen is a place of creativity and joy, where bursts of singing and dancing are just as common as the smell of fresh bread. For her, baking is more than a job; it’s an opportunity to serve her community, honor God, and share the love that started it all.
